On Thursday morning, the Congress also elected its new Board of Directors, Mario Taracena of the National Unity of Hope Party who will be sworn in by Morales later. Former Vice President Eduardo Stein (2004-2007) told reporters that Morales should make focus on making changes to the transparency "and should listen to the people."
In brief interviews with radio stations Morales said "I'm happy," 'May God give us the wisdom and courage to lead Guatemala ".
Morales is the eighth elected civilian president in 1996 at the end of 36 years of a cruel and bloody war in the country.
Alvaro Colom, former President of Guatemala (2008-2011) said he expects the new government to do things correctly. "Guatemala needs a lot of national unity, needs everyone to cooperate and I wish the best to Morales," Colom said.
The former president said that if the government starts listening to society and governance sectors will be easier. Colom said that governance, financial part of the country and the health system, are the major issues to resolve.
Just outside the National Theatre, where he will assume Morales, at least a dozen people protested calling for improvements in salary and health conditions.
